HOW IT ALL BEGAN

“ ‘Coolma‘ is a word I coined from ‘Kuma‘ (Japanese word for ‘bear’). It means bear in Japanese but it sounds like me saying in English, ‘Can you dig this cool house track, Mama?’ ” says DJ Coolma. “I grew up in Kirishima, Japan, now famous for a few famous sake brands. It doesn’t hurt to mix some good sounding tracks to those sake,” he says smilingly. While he spent his youth in the South of Japan, he found that he had a strong passion for music. This passion lead him to study jazz and classical music at the University of Arizona eventually. “So, my music is the combination of what I had learned and what is currently out there. I consider myself a sort of like a bridge between East and West; old schools and new schools.” “My new single POLICY OF TRUTH consists of a classic electro track of Depech Mode, a modern house beats with a deep house vibe because it’s got lots of jazzy ninth chords harmony, and on top of that, melody and lyrics sung by Megurine Luka (VOCALOID)—a famous vocal synth from Japan.” Indeed, his new single is his effort to combine and to become a such bridge.
